New Blog: Family Tree Maker User

If you obtain the new Family Tree Maker 2009, you also might be interested in a great blog dedicated to the program: Family Tree Maker User.

Russ Worthington is the author of this new service and his first five articles show how to use Family Tree Maker 2009's menus to create new data entries. The instructions are supplemented by ample screen shots showing the program in operation. I suspect you will find many more "how-to" articles in future days and weeks.

So far, this blog only contains information about Family Tree Maker 2009, earlier versions are not mentioned.

Family Tree Maker 2009

I have been using Family Tree Maker since version 4. I recently upgraded to Family Tree Maker 2008 and just ordered my copy of 2009. Here's what the Ancestry.com Blog has to say about it...

The Family Tree Maker team is pleased to announce the release of Family Tree Maker 2009. We are excited about the new features and user requested tools included in this version.

Over the past year, we have been making patches available that include additional functionality and features that our customers have asked for. In addition, the features included in the 2009 version come primarily from our Family Tree Maker 2008 users, showing us what features should be released next and testing the product to make sure it is working at top efficiency. We had more than 300 beta testers for Family Tree Maker 2009. We appreciate this active and ongoing participation.

Introduction to Genealogy Online Course

I recently came across a really cool website that has really taught me a few things about researching my family history. The website is About.com:Genealogy. The site was created and is maintained by genealogist and web developer Kimberly Powell. I have been researching my family history for several years, but I have learned so much about how to do things the right way from this site.

One really great thing Kimberly has on the site is a free online course called Introduction to Genealogy. I have gone through the first 2 lessons and they were great! I really picked up a few things that will help me in my future research.

Kimberly's Genealogy Blog is a great way to stay up to date on what's going on in the world of genealogy. The blog is updated several times a week. I find intersting and informative.

Thanks to Kimberly Powell for freely sharing her genealogical knowledge and wisdom!

Jeff's Genealogy Blog: What's it about?

I have been researching my family history (off and on) for about 10 years. I had recently gotten back into it when my wife surprised me with Family Tree Maker 2008. My aunt had given the whole family a printout of some research she had done, and it rekindled that interest. So, for the past several months I have not been able to get away from it! I love history and researching my family history has turned into a very enjoyable hobby.

I plan to use this blog for posting information I have found in my research, family stories, photos, recipes, and anything else I think may be of interest.

More to come...
